HOW IT STARTED

My name is Judy Browne and I am the creator and founder of Workshop for Women, LLC. The idea for Workshop for Women came about after I spent a year working as an Americorps Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver .  During that year I spent 14 weeks working on a home sponsored by Habitat for Humanity Women Build in Commerce City.  This home was entirely built with the loving hands of women from throughout the Denver Metro Area. As one of the staff members on the house I spent 4 days a week working with the most incredible women I have ever met. They were of all shapes and sizes and had all ranges of skills and abilities. What impressed me most were the women who came to the site knowing little or nothing about construction and who left with renewed confidence and faith in their ability to accomplish anything they wanted. I saw this happen again and again. When I joined AmeriCorps I had left a 20-year career as a Manufacturing Engineer and Project Manager. When my year with Habitat was over I decided it was time to do something different and Workshop for Women was born!

My Vision

I have created a place where all women are welcome; a place to learn skills, which empower and support them; a place to develop self-sufficiency and a renewed sense of confidence and faith in themselves.  A place where women feel respected and supported while they learn practical skills to use in their everyday lives.  A place, which is safe and comfortable for women to come to learn and play.  A place for women to meet, socialize and have fun while supporting each other in learning.

My classes are taught in an environment in which we are encouraged to make mistakes.  A place where it is okay if the task is not completed “perfectly”.  I am not an “expert” and my classes are not taught by experts.  The instruction is done in such a way that women are given the opportunity, with guidance and direction, to discover for themselves how to successfully complete each task.  I honor, support and acknowledge my inspiration and my community by donating 10 % of all of my proceeds to the HFH of Metro Denver - Women Build.  I network with businesses and people who support women and self-sufficiency.  I recommend products that are designed for women and places that treat women with integrity and respect for their skills and knowledge.

Please join me as my vision becomes reality!
